On December 14th, Shepherd’s Pantry hosted its annual Christmas Toy Store event. From preparations in October to hours of setting up the day before and focusing on helping parents and grandparents bring holiday magic to their children, Shepherd’s Pantry and many wonderful volunteers brought Christmas to over 530 children.
On the day of the event, families lined up and eagerly awaited their opportunity to go “shopping.” Parents browsed the aisles of donated toys and gifts to choose the perfect one for their child. Thanks to the community’s generosity, parents chose multiple toys and stocking stuffers for each child. After, parents took their choices to the gift-wrapping station, where volunteers assisted with wrapping ribbons and bows.
This year, over 250 families had the opportunity to participate in the Christmas Toy Store. By the end of the day, Shepherd’s Pantry had given out over 2000 toys. The scale and generosity of this event moved volunteers and clients alike. One family, relieved no longer having to choose between birthdays and Christmas, expressed their gratitude at Shepherd’s Pantry’s dedication and commitment to serving its clients. Another, who joined Shepherd’s Pantry more recently, thanked each volunteer for their willingness to give during these challenging times.
This event and Shepherd’s Pantry’s success would not be possible without the support of its donors and volunteers. Thank you to everyone, and a big thank you to the St. John’s Lutheran Church Congregation for hosting us.
And from the bottom of our hearts, Merry Christmas!
