Our mission is to provide food, resources and services from a faith-based perspective to those in need. We value the dignity of all individuals and strive to promote their independence.
Since Shepherd’s Pantry expanded to three locations, we have been asking ourselves what is the purpose of our food pantry? Are we a ‘temporary fix’, a band aid on a much larger wound? Or, are we able to help with solutions to an individual’s larger issues? How do we make a difference in their life when they are struggling to make ends meet every month?
In 2020 we adopted a new Mission Statement to better address these exact questions. We are focused on the diverse needs of those who come to Shepherd’s Pantry. We support their dignity by how we treat them, how we listen to their story, by what services we provide them and how we can help them access other help in the community.
For some people the situation they find themselves in requires them to live with food pantry assistance the rest of their lives. But for others, a ‘helping hand’ is what they need right now. By providing food and other services at this time in a person’s life – we are often able to provide the additional help they need in order to regain their independence.
Our ‘faith-based perspective’ is referenced as a statement of our Christian values in how we treat others, as well as how we talk about one’s God-given abilities and strengths that make each of us unique and valuable.
WHAT we do and HOW we do it – are intentional aspects that make us Shepherd’s Pantry.
